Richmond, California [December 1998]

Richmond was the western end of the Santa Fe Railway.
For nearly a century, cars were taken from the terminal
yard, along a short scenic branch line to the car ferry pier.
Guarding a grade crossing on this branch line is one of the
last wigwag signals in California, a Magnetic Signalman
upper quadrant model.
The wigwags go into action as a switching move fouls
the grade crossing.
Passing the wigwags, the branch line continues through
Point Richmond tunnel.
Today, the car ferry pier sits unused, as the Port of
San Francisco whithers away.
