San Jose, California [February 2000]

San Jose's Cahill Street Depot is a great place to watch trains, particularly passenger trains. Cahill Street is a stop for Amtrak, Amtrak California, Caltrain, and the Altamont Commuter Express. Running in the middle of this dispatcher's nightmare are a number of Union Pacific freight drags and two locals. All of this traffic in the setting of a beautiful, traditional depot.

An eastbound Altamont Commuter Express prepares to depart on a wet, overcast afternoon.
	As soon the ACE train departs, a southbound Caltrain commute arrives from San Francisco.
The ACE train heads for Fremont, Pleasanton, Tracy, and Stockton, passing San Jose's Compaq Arena.
	The commute slows as it approaches the platform at Cahill Street Station.
